  again joined to sponsor a special speaker. This event is free and open to
  the public.\n\nSteve Shunk\, woodpecker specialist\, will present on  “Ea
 st Meets West: Nebraska’s Breeding Woodpeckers.” At the heart of the Great
  Plains\, Nebraska bridges a major habitat gap between the Rocky Mountains
  and the Mississippi River Valley\, bringing birds together from both side
 s of the continent – and woodpeckers offer a prime example.  \n\nSteve has
  spent nearly 20 years studying the charismatic family of birds called woo
 dpeckers. He now lectures and leads birding tours across North America\, M
 exico\, Costa Rica\, Peru\, Sicily and Borneo. \n\nThe culmination of all 
 of Steve’s woodpecker studies is the publication of “Peterson Reference Gu
 ide to Woodpeckers of North America” in May of 2016. This is a beautiful b
 ook\, which covers the natural history of all North American woodpeckers\,
  including many great photographs. If you have a copy of Steve’s book brin
 g it with you and he will sign it.
